In June, the Center for Research on Parallel Computation (CRPC), an NSF-funded Science and Technology Center, will host the 4th Annual Conference for African-American Researchers in the Mathematical Sciences (CAARMS4) at Rice University. The main goal of this conference is to highlight current work by African-American researchers and graduate students in mathematics. This conference will strengthen the mathematical sciences by encouraging the increased participation of African-American and underrepresented groups into the field, facilitating working relationships between them and helping to cultivate their careers. In addition to the talks there will be a graduate student poster session and tutorials on topics in mathematics and computer science. These talks, presentations, and discussions will bring a broader perspective to the critical issues involving minority participation in mathematics. Invited Speakers: Earl R. Barnes, Johnnie E. Brown, James H. Curry, Amassa Fauntleroy, Charles R. Hardnett, Stacy D. Hill, Yves Darly Jean, William A. Massey, Christine McMillan, Robert E. Megginson, Roderick Moten, Mark A.S. Smith, Richard A. Tapia, Elaine Terry, Donald C. Williams, Luther S. Williams, and Pamela J. Williams. Contributed Poster Session: Lodging and transportation are available to authors of posters selected for the conference. Please indicate your intent to participate and send your title and abstract by email (please send only a textfile) to William A. Massey (908-582-3225, will@research.bell-labs.com) no later than May 15.
