![]() TAPIA FEATURED ON PBSRichard Tapia, CRPC Director of Education and Minority Programs, was featured in "BreakThrough: The Changing Face of Science in America," a six-part PBS series that aired in April. "BreakThrough" chronicled the rewards and challenges facing 20 underrepresented minority professionals who chose a life in science and mathematics. Tapia appeared in the closing segment entitled "A Delicate Balance," in which he was filmed teaching, providing outreach, and speaking about his mission as a role model for underrepresented minorities in scientific fields. CRPC External Advisory Committee member Israel Galvan was also profiled in an earlier segment of the program, which revealed how he overcame obstacles to obtain his engineering degree and ultimately start an engineering firm that designs new technology for use in space. CRPC Executive Committee member Rick Stevens of Argonne National Laboratory appeared in a segment that profiled fellow researcher Valerie Taylor, an African American assistant professor of Engineering/Computer Science from Northwestern University.
