CRPC TO HELP "RETOOL" HPCC USERS FOR PARALLELISM
Late in 1994, the CRPC was awarded a three-year, $785,000 National
Science Foundation (NSF) grant as part of a larger collaborative
effort under the NSF Metacenter Regional Alliance Program involving
the NSF's four national supercomputing centers and the North Carolina
Supercomputer Center (NCSC). This group will design and implement an
educational program to introduce the science and engineering community
to the use of scalable parallel computer systems.
Through the MRA program, the CRPC can reach a much larger portion of
the community of current supercomputing users by using supercomputer
center staff trainers to deliver parallel computing educational
programs to end users. The MRA program builds upon the success of the
CRPC's prototype training workshop for center staff members held in
October 1993 at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications.
The CRPC, NCSC, and the Metacenter will collaborate to provide
curricular materials and training in the use of parallel programming
tools and methods to supercomputing center staff, who regularly teach
courses and training workshops to supercomputing users. The CRPC and
NCSC are working to develop multimedia educational materials that can
be disseminated electronically.
