Clinton Taps Rice ProfSource: Houston Chronicle, October 11, 1996 President Clinton has named a Rice University math professor to the governing board of the agency that allots funding for university and laboratory research. Richard Tapia, an expert in the field of computational and applied mathematics will travel next week to Washington, D.C., for his first meeting as a member of the National Science Board.
Tapia was also recently honored by the White House as one of the first
recipients of a Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics
and Engineering Mentoring. The award recognized Tapia's contributions to
mentoring students who have been underrepresented in science, math and
engineering fields.
