Professors John E. Dennis and Richard A. Tapia have been invited to to speak at two conferences of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). Professor Dennis is one of the invited speakers at the Sixth SIAM Conference on Optimization, to be held May 10-12, 1999, in Atlanta, Georgia. His lecture is on "Quasi-Newton Methods from Davidon to Automatic Differentiation." In addition, Professor Tapia, has been invited to the deliver the I. E. Block Community Lecture at the 1999 SIAM Annual Meeting, to be held May 12-15, 1999, in Atlanta, Georgia. His lecture is on "Mathematical Insights in Bicycle and Car Racing."
