Summary
Knowledge transfer through the STCs encompasses many broad-based and far-reaching activities
that help to create a natural environment in which technical exchange can occur. This cooperative
environment has resulted in many new technologies and scientific advancements that would
have not been possible in the absence of the STC program. When scientists from industry,
academic, and government laboratories work in such an environment, all groups benefit. These
benefits may include collaborations, students trained and transferred to industry, enhanced
facilities and increased support for center research, new directions for center research, and new
research opportunities for scientists as a result of knowledge disseminated through STC
workshops. All of these activities illustrate the contributions of the STCs' knowledge transfer
efforts, which are in addition to the many contributions made to basic
science.
