NSF RENEWS CENTER FOR RESEARCH ON PARALLEL COMPUTATION

The National Science Foundation has renewed funding for the CRPC for $22,155,420 over the next five years. The center was renewed with eight other centers in the NSF's Science and Technology Center (STC) program.

"This additional funding will allow CRPC to continue its research and development of software and algorithms to make parallel computing more usable and permit us to pursue some exciting new technological developments," said CRPC Director Ken Kennedy. "It will also make it possible for us to enhance and expand our programs in education, knowledge transfer, and the participation of underrepresented minority groups."

The CRPC is one of 11 original centers in the STC program, which was established in 1989 to support long-term collaborative research across disciplines and at the forefront of scientific frontiers. Of the 25 current STCs, the CRPC is the most physically distributed, with seven sites across the nation. The other STCs renewed this year are based in California, Illinois, Oklahoma, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.
