IBM POWER 2 INSTALLED AT LOS ALAMOS NATIONAL LABORATORY

The Advanced Computing Laboratory, the CRPC's site at Los Alamos National Laboratory, now has an IBM POWER 2 computer installed and ready for use. The POWER 2 is an implementation of the IBM POWER architecture as a multichip RISC processor. It provides floating-point performance of 129 megaflops (100 x 100 LINPACK) and 236 megaflops (1000 x 1000 LINPACK). The system has 512 megabytes of RAM memory (expandable to 2 gigabytes) with a 66 megahertz processor and a 4 gigabyte hard disk (expandable to 12 gigabytes internal, 200 gigabytes total). The machine has HIPPI as well as TCP/IP connections and runs both AIX and X Windows. For more information on this machine, contact Ann Hayes at 505- 665-4506, ahh@lanl.gov.
