HPF USER MEETING SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY

The first annual High Performance Fortran (HPF) User Group Meeting will be held February 24 through 26, 1997 at the Eldorado Hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Sponsored by the CRPC and Los Alamos National Laboratory, the conference will provide an opportunity for current and potential HPF users to share ideas and get up-to-date information about the language's implementations and future directions.

HPF is an extension of Fortran that provides support for portable data- parallel programming. A tutorial covering the basics of programming in HPF will be offered prior to the meeting on the morning of February 23. An afternoon tutorial will present the recently finalized HPF version 2.0 (see "Research Focus," page 9).

The meeting itself will feature invited talks by HPF users and developers in the areas of real-world HPF applications, software, and development. CRPC Director Ken Kennedy will moderate a panel discussion to encourage user feedback on HPF.

"User feedback is the key focus of this workshop and will be of great benefit to HPF vendors and the high-performance computing community at large," says Kennedy. "Active participation from the user community is critical to guide vendors' efforts and help them prioritize the tasks ahead, including approved extensions to the language."
