Tidal Amplitudes in Galveston Bay

The figure below shows tidal amplitudes averaged over a 24 hour period. Notice that the amplitudes vary from a high of 0.8m (2.6ft) to a low of 0.22m (8.7in).

This figure helps to distinguish areas in which high-amplitude tides are predominant from those areas in which low-amplitude tides area predominant.

Methodology: High-order Godunov method based on the primitive formulation of shallow water equations.

Application Example: Visualizations such as the one shown can help coastal developers better assimilate and integrate averaged tidal fluctuation information into their designs.
