Overview

The Strategic Planning Exercise for the George R. Brown School of Engineering is intended to be an open process that will strive to include input from interested parties, including faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students, alumni, the university at large, the business community, and local, state, and national communities. The purpose of this process is to establish goals and a shared vision for the future of the School, to identify impediments to achieving those goals and to develop implementation strategies to overcome the impediments.

To carry out this process, the Steering Committee has established three principal methods:

  1. Beginning Spring 1996: Face-to-face meetings with interested groups, such as the departments, graduate and undergraduate student groups, and the Engineering Advisory Council.
  2. Beginning Spring 1996: Electronic gathering of input from interested parties through the use of email, newsgroups, and Web pages.
  3. Fall 1996: A series of planning workshops that will seek input in four topic areas: faculty, undergraduate programs and students, graduate programs and students, and technology transfer and outreach. These workshops will include representatives from the entire community. Following the workshops, a preliminary report will be circulated in late fall, with a final report scheduled to appear at the beginning of the spring semester.
